Ramsay and Steve Thorpe are both fascinated by the process of what happens
when stones are eroded. However, they are both paying attention to two very
different aspects: Steve Thorpe is interested in the transformation of matter
from solid to powder (slow in human terms, but a kind of speeded-up weathering)
while Paul Ramsay is drawn to the sounds that emanate as one material rubs
against another (the product of friction between inert materials that are
yet full of emotive, human resonance). This show comprised Steve Thorpe's 'Rock Works' created from materials from specific sites and Paul Ramsay’s sound installation 'Frictional Account' derived from recordings of stones activated through being ground together. Notation, documentation and speculative/collaborative visual pieces were also on display. New shows are being prepared for 2009/10 - see below: |
