I've always found the use of a book an essential component to making artwork, especially music. The main qualities I enjoy are: the motivation the book provides for allowing you to become excited about your ideas and the centre of focus it becomes, even though you might draw on a variety of stimuli and entertain ideas that turn out to ephemeral.

Two big influences on my approach to composition are my experiences as a trainee recording engineer and as an improvising musician.
